Procedures for Terna Web Service authentication certificates

 

This section lists the rules for the issue and use of authentication certificates for Terna Web Service applications and applications with PKCS#12 authentication and details the procedures relevant thereto. The indications provided are valid for Terna's activities, in the role of certifier, for the Registration Office, for system administrators of those applications of external companies which need to be enabled in order to use Terna Web Services.

With the relevant Operating Manual, the certifier informs all parties involved in the certification service about their obligations and responsibilities and the procedures to be followed for correct use of the service.
In particular, the certifier shall inform the system administrators of the applications of the relevant external companies of their obligations regarding safeguarding the confidentiality of the private key and the storage and use of signature devices, as well as the obligation to notify the certifier of any loss, theft or compromise to the private key in a timely manner.

Terna does not recognise as valid the use of its certificates for purposes other than those specified during the issuing procedure. In such case, the certificate shall have no effect vis-à-vis third parties.
